Event Description:
The Night Orienteering Classic is Back!
Green Corn Moon will be held on the first Saturday in August, starting at 6 p.m. and finishing at Midnight. This 6 hour Orienteering Event (aka Rogaine) challenges participants to locate checkpoints throughout Great Seal State Park, using a map and compass.
The hills to be navigated are those pictured in ‘The Great Seal of the State of Ohio.’ Speaking of history, the renowned “Tecumseh!” Outdoor drama will be going on just over ‘Sugarloaf Mountain’, as it has since 1973. You may just hear war cries and cannon fire, watch out for any Lost Arrows…
Participants can register as either a Solo or as a member of a 2-Person Team. There will be a ‘non-competitive’ option for those that want to participate in the event, but not have the pressure of competing.
Also new this year, we are providing Lidar based O-maps and electronic punch sticks for ease of navigation and scoring, though we don’t have anything to help traverse those peaks and valleys. As NSF Adventures used to say, there will be “pain and suffering…the good kind.”
Night navigation does present some unique challenges. Check the gear list (above) and make sure to have all required items, especially a reliable light source (headlamp), back-up, and reflective vest.
Registration is limited, so register today and we’ll see you in August!
